Students\' mathematical meanings of limits
While all students may receive instruction related to the same mathematics concepts, they make sense of these concepts through their own mathematics - their understanding, knowledge, and application of the mathematics. Students then filter these concepts through their own mathematical meanings. Therefore, I will study students’ mathematical meanings for limits. I will analyze college students’ interviews that were conducted at two different times, one after their first day of instruction on limits in their calculus 1 course and then again at the end of the unit on limits. Two groups of students were selected to participate in the study based on their College Algebra course (Math 110). My research will investigate college students’ mathematical meanings for limits based on their college algebra course as well as their calculus course.
