advances towards the synthesis of SA antigen serotype 8
Staphylococcus aureus (SA) an important human pathogen due to its virulence and increasing drug resistance. Efforts have been made to generate vaccines to SA, and these have been based on large, partially-purified polysaccharides coupled to a protein carrier. Anti-saccharide responses to these vaccines are T-cell independent do not generate high affinity antibodies or memory responses. Our approach to SA vaccines it so prepare smaller, synthetic glycans for attachment to nanoparticles. We have shown that this type of vaccine results in high affinity antibodies and memory responses. We will show the advances we have made towards the synthesis the targeted glycan for SA vaccines.
