Origami Design: The Feasibility of Mechanisms on Developable Surfaces
Origami presents endless possibilities for new applications of mathematics and engineering. We are focused on developable surfaces, which include cones, cylinders, and tangent-developable surfaces. Through analysis of the geometry of developable surfaces, we explore the possibilities associated with mechanisms embedded in these surfaces. Most of the work in this area has been performed with cones, and we are exploring the possibility of generalizing the function of these mechanisms to other surfaces as well. The goal of our research is to examine the possibilities and limitations involved in this problem.
