Secondary Preservice Mathematics Teachers' Curricular Reasoning: What Influences Their Decisions?
The purpose of this study is to understand the process by which teachers make decisions about what they will teach their students (i.e., curricular reasoning). Researchers have found that teachers' decisions affect student learning. Curricular reasoning focuses on teachers' decisions as they plan, develop and enact lessons for their students. Preservice teachers generally have less resources than more experienced teachers, but no other studies have been done to explore preservice teachers' curricular reasoning. Schoenfeld's (2011) framework will be used to analyze how teachers' goals, orientations, and resources influence their curricular reasoning. This study analyses data from two groups of secondary mathematics preservice teachers during the planning, teaching, and reflection of their lesson.
