3MT Intimate partner violence is a real and growing problem in today's society, however, it has previously not been studied through the lens of social media. Our objective is to view intimate partner violence through the lens of social media to see what insights we can gain. We found people on social media who are in a violent relationship by selecting all users whose tweets over a period of time include some key terms, and then compared their followers with a control group to see whether the followers of those in violent relationships are more likely to be in violent relationships themselves. We saw that there was a statistically significant difference between the proportion of people in violent relationships among followers of those who initially matched our search terms and the proportion in our control group.
