Analysis of Relativistic Electron Motion in an Intense Laser Field
A classical point electron responding to a plane-wave electromagnetic pulse exhibits nonlinear behavior when the field strength becomes sufficiently high. The electron’s motion is governed by relativistic dynamics as it responds to the Lorentz force. I will describe this behavior analytically as well as the radiation emitted by an electron undergoing such a trajectory. In the average rest frame of the electron, discrete harmonics of the driving field are emitted into various angles relative to the direction of the driving field and its polarization.
