Optical characterization of THz generation molecules and crystals
Terahertz spectroscopy is an emerging field with varied applications. Currently, the most efficient table-top design for THz generation is through optical rectification of ultrafast laser pulses in nonlinear optical crystals. Our goal is to better characterize the complex refractive index of nonlinear optical THz crystals at THz frequencies. We can determine the refractive index with transmission measurements using THz time-domain spectroscopy. The refractive index allows us to calculate optimal crystal thicknesses for THz generation, and even predict the generated THz spectrum.
