Modeling Trophic Cascades at Yellowstone National Park
Understanding trophic cascades, or the ecological impact of a change in apex predator behavior, has become extremely improtant in the management of a number of critical ecosystems. Yellowstone National Park is a natural testbed for such studies since wolves were eliminated from the environment and then reintroduced after a 70-year absence. This research explores the development of ecological models of subgroups at Yellowstone in an effort to use their limited data to better understand the impact of such perturbations to the system.
