Abstract by Dallin Pulsiper
Our research aims to find the effectiveness of video games in motivating people to do chores and accomplish their goals. We are testing Endogenous(value that comes from within) and Exogenous(value that comes outward) value in games. Our control experiment rewards the player completely exogenous value. Our experiment rewards the player with endogenous value as well. We have conducted our experiment twice and are getting ready to conduct it one more time. Most services out there only use exogenous value. We want to see if the endogenous aspect directly effects the effectiveness of the game. We hypothesize that this will. This semester we have changed the game to remove lurking variables. We hope to help find the main motivating factor in video games and see if they can be used to help people accomplish their chores and goals.
