Wavelength Metrology with Webcams


We are developing a precise, robust, and inexpensive wavelength meter that uses a webcam to collect and analyze collimated light. As the light passes through various layers on and in the webcam's array of photodetectors, it creates a wavelength-dependent interference pattern. We can fit a function to this pattern for each pixel over a range of known wavelengths, and we expect to be able to use this function to calculate an unknown wavelength with picometer-level precision. The device is run from a Raspberry Pi using Python code.
