Dynamical effect in determining the blocking temperature of magnetite nanoparticles


My research with Dr. Chesnel focuses on understanding how certain parameters affect the estimation of the blocking temperature of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticle assemblies. I will present data I have collected on one sample made of 5 nm magnetite nanoparticles using a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). In these VSM measurements, we attempt to estimate the blocking temperature below which the material is magnetically frozen by comparing Field Cooling (FC) and Zero Field Cooling (ZFC) curves. I will present two data sets. In the first set, we study how varying the heating rate affects the blocking temperature value. In the second data set, we study how varying the acquisition speed at a given heating rate during the FC and ZFC curves affects the evaluation of the blocking temperature.
