Ammonia Borane Dehydrolysis by Metal Organic Framework Catalysis


We are working towards the efficient dehydrolysis of ammonia borane (AB) for the use of hydrogen in hydrogen fuel cells. AB releases hydrogen on its own when mixed with water and receiving enough heat, but we want to find a cheap efficient solution that catalyzes this reaction. Metal organic frameworks (MOF) are webs of organic linkers with deposits of metal woven into the bonds of the lattice. Ideally, these molecular complexes keep metal sites dispersed and allow them to interact with an increased amount of substrate when added to solution. We are researching MOFs that will efficiently catalyze the AB dehydrolysis reaction and allow it to work to completion.
