Optical Constants of Aluminum Fluoride
Aluminum fluoride has potential to be used in mirror coatings for space telescopes, as fluorides are less opaque to higher energy light than other materials. Its optical properties in the extreme UV, however, are still not well known. We deposited thin films of aluminum fluoride on aluminum and brought samples to the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence National Laboratory. We took reflectance data on the samples under extreme UV light, from 2.75 to 50 nm. We are using this data to determine the optical constants of aluminum fluoride in that light range.
