Preliminary Observations with the 5-inch Refracting Telescope at the Brigham Young University Observation Deck
We are currently developing an observation deck for time-domain astronomy, with a goal of five robotic telescopes, three of which are currently online and gathering data. The most recent of the three currently operating telescopes is a 5-inch refracting telescope with a 32x neutral density filter. This system allows for observation of brighter objects than those observed with large telescopes, including brighter targets from the TESS catalog and some bright variable stars. Certain challenges and complications of the operation of this telescope for research will be discussed. Preliminary data from this telescope, taken in summer and fall 2019, will also be reported.
