Title

Chiral Acetamide Utilization

Abstract

In the process of synthesizing Nocardioazine A, a potent anti-cancer drug, a particular acetamide substrate is utilized. This acetamide, with a chiral auxiliary group attached, has potential to be used in a number of other stereospecific reactions. Currently, we have been studying its effectiveness as the dieneophile in a Diels-Alder reaction with a variety of diene substrates. Based on our tests, this reaction has proven to work efficiently, with yields of nearly 90%. The product of these reactions has the potential to then be reduced to extremely unique amino acids, which could then be utilized for a number of other biological applications.
