Geometric Transformations: Common Student Misconceptions with Rotations
Geometric transformations are a new topic for middle grades students and teachers. Transformations can be challenging for students to conceptualize, particularly reflections and rotations. Student data was collected from twelve middle school classrooms across three states to help identify needed focus areas and make subsequent recommendations for improved instruction. This presentation will report on common misconceptions students have related to rotations. Implications for teaching rotations will be discussed.
