Examining Student Algebra Errors
Many students struggle to make sense of algebraic expressions in math. This lack of understanding results in students making algebra errors, hindering their procedural fluency. Researchers have found that these errors are not usually the result of erratic behavior by students. Rather, these errors make sense to students based on their previous knowledge. I will present algebra errors I have seen in student work and what researchers have found related to these errors.
