Junior High Game: Unifying Concepts of the Social Sciences


A unified model of human behavior does not currently exist for two major reasons: the underlying principles are not fully understood and we lack the mathematical tools to reliably approximate human decision-making. As a result ideas and models are dispersed throughout many disciplines. An approach to synthesizing such ideas is to create a general game for which a maximal number of concepts from other disciplines become partial solutions to the game. That is, the game implicitly unifies the theories if aspects of the game reduce to a given theory, whose solution constitutes a partial solution to the original game. The Junior High Game (JHG) is an environment that allows for both human and software agents to employ aspects of bargaining theory, exchange networks, game theory, and network theory to solve arbitrarily defined problems. The game is flexible enough to model many human systems, yet structured enough such that its dynamics can be easily formulated and analyzed mathematically.
