Title

Shortcuts in Diophantine Approximations, Part 1

Abstract

This talk discusses Diophantine approximations and improvements to them as outlined by Dirichlet's approximation theorem and subsequent results. In this half of the talk, we define Diophantine approximations and introduce Dirichlet's theorem. We show how continued fractions may be used to generate such approximations and also define a measure for how good an approximation is.
