Title

Validation of an Acoustic Dataset from a New Military Jet Aircraft

Abstract

Noise from military jet aircraft can impact nearby personnel and communities. During summer 2019, BYU collected extensive noise data on the T-7A Red Hawk, which is the Air Force’s new supersonic trainer aircraft. Our project is to compile, document, and validate the data so that it can be used for detailed aeroacoustic analyses. In this paper, we describe how we are validating the data by studying the noise pressure waveforms and spectra to look for overall characteristics and identify any anomalies.  This will help us gain more insight on noise levels and other characteristics, such as the shock waves that produce jet “crackle.”
