Title

Zinc Oxide Nanomaterials for H2S Desulfurization

Abstract

We present the formation of zinc oxide nanoplates via a sol-gel method. The nanoplates have 80-200 nm diameters and 10-30 nm thickness. The nanoplates were tested, along with ZnO nanoparticles and prisms for their potential use as a sorbent to adsorb hydrogen sulfide. The materials were characterized before and after sulfurization tests via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively conduced plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), and X-ray dispersive spectrometry (EDX). The nanoplates proved to be superior sorbents. The sulfurization of ZnO nanoplates carried out at 400  reached up to 99% of the theoretical maximum sulfur capacity. The sulfurized nanoplates were easily converted back to ZnO by heating under air at 600 °C.
