Fitting and Analysis of Brown Dwarf Spectra
I have been analyzing and fitting the spectra of observed brown dwarfs with a single atmosphere model and a binary atmosphere model. Each set of models utilizes different parameters, adjusting the surface gravity, temperate, mixing constants, and cloud opacity of the brown dwarf to simulate the possible atmosphere. Each of the models are smoothed to better fit the data and then compared against the data using a chi-squared process to see which model best matches the spectra. From the data, I can deduce the properties of the brown dwarfs and determine which brown dwarfs are likely part of a binary system. In completing my research, I hope to discover new binary systems and establish a better understanding of brown dwarf evolution.
