Title

A Graduate School Recommendation System

Abstract

With the advance in technology and the increased demand of skilled workers these days, graduate-level education becomes more demanding than ever before. Selecting appropriate graduate schools to apply, however, is a tedious process as there are many factors to consider before a decision can be made. In this paper, we propose a recommendation system that suggests appropriate graduate schools to applicants. As desirable graduate programs are based on applicant’s expectation, our system makes use of user data to generate suggestions by taking into consideration the requirements of schools and the qualification of an applicant. Matching schools with requirements similar to an applicant’s qualification using multi-class SVM and KNN is an ideal solution to the problem.  An empirical study conducted using online data of current graduate students has validated the accuracy of our suggestions
