Facility Location Using Markov Chains

Abstract

Facility Location Problems are concerned with the introduction of a new facility into a prexisting network of facilities.  The goal is to determine the optimal location for the new facility.  Based on the definition of optimal, the determined location can vary significantly.  We present a case study using Markov chains to determine the optimal location for a new temple for the LDS church and the intuition behind the metrics used to determine the optimal location.  The results are contrasted to the results given by traditional facility location management solutions.
