Facility Location Using Markov Chains

Abstract

Facility Location Problems are concerned with the introduction of a new facility into a prexisting network of facilities.  The goal is to determine the optimal location for the new facility.  Based on the definition of optimal, the determined location can vary significantly.  We present methods to solve facility location problems using Markov chains under different objective functions and the situations in which these functions would be applicable.  We also discuss the flexibility allowed by using Markov chains  in facility location problems.  These models are then used to predictthe best location for a new temple for the LDS church.
