Title

Inclusion of Women in the Computer Science Department at BYU

Abstract

The lack of women in CS and other tech fields is often described as a “leaky pipeline”, with more women dropping out at each stage of education. The purpose of this study is to better understand why the retention rate for women is so low here in the CS department. We will do this by exploring existing data about other universities’ CS programs as well as available information about our CS department. In the future, we intend to collect data about students who enroll in CS 142: their study habits, goals, interests, motivations, confidence and experiences in the department. We intend to analyze the data and publish the results.
