Adaptive Tolerances in the Classification of Materials
Developing and implementing new adaptive tolerances for symmetry analysis of crystals. Research has shown that current, state of the art crystal classification techniques which rely on absolute tolerances can cause up to 19% of the classifications being mismatches. Implementation of tolerances, adaptive to the size of the entries being compared, can bring this percent error down to 1.5%. The technique is currently being developed for usage in the SYMLIB library of the Materials Simulation Group at Brigham Young University.
