Motif Discovery in Antimicrobial Peptides
In the age of the super-bug, bacteria that have become resistant to common forms of antibiotics, drug discovery cannot keep up. Researchers predict that by 2050 bacterial infections will kill more people than cancer. A revolutionization in antibiotic development is desperately needed. Using a dataset of hundreds of thousands of randomly generated peptide sequences and their corresponding antimicrobial activity, we propose a new pipeline to find motifs that will be toxic to these bacteria using a variety of methods.
