Title

Molybdenum-Tin catalyzed N-formylation of aniline

Abstract

Beta-tin zeolites have been shown to have great activity in organic reactions. The much simpler MoO3SnO2 catalyst and recently been shown to catalyze similar reactions. We found that the heterogeneous molybdenum tin catalyzes the formation of carbon-nitrogen bonds in the N-formylation of aniline with peroxide and ethylene glycol in a simple one pot synthesis. The reaction proceeds at very mild temperatures, 50 C in, and goes to completion in 1 hr and gives modest yields and conversion to the main product formanilide with side products of azobenzene, azoxybenzene, and nitrobenzene.
