Directional pressure sensing using multi-microphone probes
Acoustic intensity describes the amplitude and direction of acoustic energy from a sound source, and is often estimated using multi-microphone probes. The Phase and Amplitude Gradient Estimator (PAGE) method increases the bandwidth of active intensity estimates over traditional estimation. This method uses the phase gradient to determine the direction of the active intensity, which can be accurate at frequencies much higher than the spatial Nyquist frequency when properly unwrapped. The phase gradient can also be used to express pressure as a combination of components from different directions. This allows for highly-directional pressure sensing using compact and commercially-available intensity probes, with accuracy across a wide frequency bandwidth. Initial experimental validation will be shown.
