Title

Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines employed in Finite Element Analysis

Abstract

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is one of the most popular numerical techniques for solving complex boundary and initial value problems. A more recent area of development regarding FEA is what is called Isogeometric Analysis (IGA). IGA can be considered a general curvilinear Finite Element Method employing Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) as basis elements. As a result, a high order accurate numerical scheme is obtained. NURBS’ properties allow the domain of the scheme to be modeled more accurately as well as the solution of the system to be computed. Here, we present the definition, construction and properties of NURBS.
