Title

Group Transition and Formation in Academia

Abstract

Group transition and formation is an important problem in network theory. My research is focused on predicting group transition and formation in the context of academia. In particular, I am working with academic genealogy in several different academic fields including physics, mathematics, and chemistry. My goal is to use the genealogical networks to predict whether people within academia will switch their fields, and if so, which fields they switch to. For example, if someone gets their graduate degree in mathematics, but ends up in physics, I want to be able to predict that shift.
