Optimal Hitting Locations
Maximizing the probability of successful attacks is critical to the success of any volleyball team. Understandably, players have higher probabilities of a kill in certain positions on the court and at certain locations within those positions. A similar statement can be made for attack errors. Accurate location identification for kills and errors allows coaches and players to position their offense effectively. We present a binomial logistic approach to assess the probabilities of kills and errors given attack position and location. We base our models on set heights and set distances from the net and sideline. Using the results of this model, coaches can use expected probabilities of kills and errors to instruct their players in optimal hitting locations to maximize points and win games.
