Air Sampling Study of Particle Formation
To understand particle formation in the atmosphere, concentrations of precursor molecules need to be better understood. Concentrations of ammonia and chlorine were measured in multiple locations throughout Utah to determine both the concentration and movement of these particle predecessors. Concentrations were measured using sorbent pads and mesh screens to trap the ammonia and chlorine respectively. These findings report that these particles are blown into Salt Lake county from Utah county and other areas. Understanding the mapping of these precursor molecules will allow for better methods of combatting pollution through particle formation in the future.
