Using Computational Tools to Create Organometallic Reaction Animations

Abstract

Understanding and visualizing representations of chemical structures is a difficult, but very important skill needed by chemistry students. Organometallic reactions are an emerging class of reactions taught in sophomore organic chemistry classes. While there are visualization programs for classic organic reactions, there are currently no animations of organometallic complexes and reaction mechanisms. This talk will showcase the beginning of our development of animations for Suzuki and Heck reactions based on density functional theory calculations.
